Lot 284. 5 1950s Tobacco Ads with Athletes Such as Mantle, Spahn, Lemon, Wynn, Berra, Etc. These ads are from magazines. Three different for Camels range from 9.75” x 12.5” to 10.5” x almost 14”. Mickey Mantle is in two of them, and so are Early Wynn, Red Schoendienst, Ted Kluszewski and Harvey Haddix. Bob Lemon and Warren Spahn are in all three. Richie Ashburn, Yogi Berra, Enos Slaughter, Billy Martin also make appearances. One ad is vg and two are vg-ex; one is mounted on stiff paper. Mantle appears in two two-page ads. In an ad for Phillies Cigars, he is on one page, and one of his sons, on another. The ad offers a Rawlings baseball glove and an “autographed color picture of Mickey Mantle” for 20 Phillies cigar bands and $3.39. The pages are divided and vg-ex. In the other two-page ad, Mantle joins Sam Snead, Zoe Ann Olsen and Pancho Gonzales in endorsing Viceroy Cigarettes. The pages remain joined and have holes where staples once held them in place; otherwise, ex. Winning Bid $20.
