Lot 281. 5 Late-1940s “Always Buy Chesterfield” Ads with DiMaggio, Hogan and Other Sports Stars. Probably the most colorful of the cigarette ads, these creations were issued by Chesterfield Cigarettes 1946-49. The images of the greats of the period tend to pop off the pages! Three of these advertisements, all from magazines, present only baseball players: 1. Ted Williams and Stan Musial, 8.5” x 11.5”. 2. Joe DiMaggio, Musial, Williams, Ewell Blackwell, Bucky Harris and Bob Elliott, 10.25” x 13.5”. 3. Bill Dickey and Mel Ott, 10.25” x 14”. The ads with multiple sports represented are: 4. DiMaggio, Frankie Albert, Lou Boudreau, Ben Hogan and Jack Kramer, two-page spread, 14” x 20.5”. 5. Bobby Riggs, Sid Luckman, Adolph Kiefer, Nat Homan, Lloyd Mangrum, Williams and Musial, approximately 9.75” x 12.5”. Generally, these ads are ex. Ad #5 has a stain in each of the upper corners. Ad #4 has a chip along the bottom edge where the two pages are joined. The Dickey-Ott ad has a slightly irregular left boarder. All of the ads display very nicely. Winning Bid $30.
