1940s-50s American Legion Sleeveless Wool Baseball Uniform Made by Wilson Sporting Goods.
Lot 298. 1940s-50s American Legion Sleeveless Wool Baseball Uniform Made by Wilson Sporting Goods. Vintage steel spikes accompany the uniform, which identifies the “Clayton Shoe Co.” as the American Legion team’s sponsor on the back of the jersey. Sleeveless jerseys from the period are uncommon. This jersey may have been for a team in Clayton, MO, which was home to the Brown Shoe Co. for much of the 20th century. There is some evidence that the Clayton Shoe Co. could have operated retails stores in the area. In any case, the jersey is size 42 from Wilson, and the pants, size 34. The jersey and pants show use and generally are in excellent condition. The right knee and upper left leg of the pants have undergone small repairs. The size of the shoes is not shown; the upper part is ex-m. Winning Bid $35.
