Lot 94. 9 Vintage Basketball Guides, a Rules Book and 2 Publications on Playing the Game. The earliest annual is the “Official Basket Ball Guide” for 1911-12 from Reach. This 224-page publication is loaded with photos and provides regional and even state coverage of college and high school basketball. Who knows? It might even contain a high school photo with your father, grandfather, great-grandfather or uncle. We found a photo of the high school team from our hometown. Vg+. Three guides are by Spalding – 1915-16, g+ with the front cover detached; 1933-34, vg; and 1938-39, tape on the spine, g-vg. A. S. Barnes Co. also produced three guides: 1943-44, g-vg; 1946-47, vg; and 1950, vg-ex hardback. The National Collegiate Athletic Bureau issued the 1961 and 1962 editions of the “Official Collegiate Basketball Record Book,” both g-vg with vg+ to ex pages. “Official 1971-72 Basketball Rules” are contained in a 64-page booklet from the National Federation of State High School Associations. It has a price sticker on the front and otherwise is ex. Ozzie Cowles of the University of Minnesota provides advice on playing basketball in the 1951-52 edition of “Basketball Hints,” a 36-page illustrated pamphlet. Vg. In “A Handy Illustrated Guide to Basketball,” Sam Nisenson offers more detailed instruction. This 1949 hardback, published without a dust jacket, is vg+. Twenty-six pages at the back contain basic drawings of and information on basketball stars and coaches. Winning Bid $40.
