The Story of the Harlem Globetrotters 1949-50 Edition Program.

Lot 92. The Story of the Harlem Globetrotters 1949-50 Edition Program. The program commemorates the Globetrotters’ 23rd season. Printed in a green tint, it is loaded with photos that include “Present Day Trotters,” action shots, and composites of the Globetrotters of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Ball handling great Marquis Haynes is on the front cover. Among the players pictured inside are Goose Tatum, Pop Gates and Piper Davis, who also played baseball for the Birmingham Black Barons and significantly influenced Willie Mays. Text printed neatly on the front of the program reads “Final Score Trotters-99 Elgin All-Stars 40.” Three holes have been punched through this 16-page publication near the spine, apparently to allow for placement in a binder. Punch holes aside, this scarce publication has a vg appearance. Winning Bid $15.
