On newsstands two years before “Playboy,” “Modern Man” featured photographs of established actresses, cabaret and burlesque dancers, models and starlets. It also contained articles on various topics, such as cars and hunting, that particularly interested men. In contrast, the yearbooks and the annual are largely free of editorial content. Instead, each offers 68 or more pages of photos, a few in color, with brief written profiles.
