Lot 51. 2 1935 Wheaties Football – All-Americans of 1934 – Hartwig and Larson. Charles C. Hartwig was an All-American guard at the University of Pittsburgh, and Frank Larson, an All-American end at the University of Minnesota. Later, Hartwig was an assistant coach at Pitt. Larson coached high school teams, a Junior College team and, in 1949 and 1950, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. Serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II, he earned nine battle stars. He was inducted into the Minnesota Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Minnesota High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 1977. Hartwig’s Wheaties “Fancy Frame” card has been trimmed to about 5 ½” x 6,” and Larson’s, to about 5 3/8” x 5 7/8.” Cut from a cereal box, both cards have blank backs. Both are free of creases. The Hartwig card has a tiny scuff on the right border. As trimmed, it is ex to ex-m. The Larson card is vg-ex with hand-cut borders that are slightly irregular. Winning Bid $50.
