Lot 341. 1940s George Mikan Flyer Promoting “College Basketball Nites” in Chicago, & a Basketball Ticket. Then a star for DePaul, Mikan is the central figure in this tri-color 8.5” x 11” flyer, printed on both sides and offering a “Thrill a Minute! On College Basketball Nite at the Chicago Stadium.” Nine such “nites” were scheduled on three Fridays and six Saturdays from Dec. 8, 1944 through Feb. 24, 1945. In addition to DePaul, Northwestern and Notre Dame were frequent participants in these contests. The flyer, folded twice as designed for mailing, is ex+. For the 1944-45 season, Mikan was a consensus All-American, and “The Sporting News” and Helms Player of the Year. Mikan was the first NBA player inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He is also in the College Basketball Hall of Fame. The ticket is a complimentary variety for the Feb. 1, 1935 Southern California game against UCLA. The front has two pin holes and otherwise a vg appearance. The blank back has writing on it and two scuffs. Winning Bid $20.
