Lot 333. Mario Lemieux and Other Pittsburgh Penguins Memorabilia. Elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997, Lemieux typically ranks among the top five players on any list of hockey’s all-time greatest. He was with the Penguins for his entire NHL playing career, from 1984-97 and 2000-06. This collection contains 22 Lemieux items: 1. “Mario Lemieux: Over Time” by Chris Goyens and Frank Orr, 2001 hardback, 216 large-format pages, extensively illustrated, near fine book, vg-nf dust jacket. 2. Nm plaque, 14.75” x 12.75”, with a color Lemieux photo and a 1996 Summit card by Pinnacle. 3-7. “Beckett Hockey Monthly,” 5 issues, 3 different, with Lemieux on the cover: Aug. 1992, the Penguins, including Lemieux, celebrate their second straight Stanley Cup title, nm+; Oct. 1996, “Superb, Mario” as Beckett’s first “Player of the Year,” ex+; July 1997, “Farewell, Mario,” 3 copies, nm+, ex and vg. 8-9. “Sports Illustrated” A Tribute: Mario Lemieux Special Commemorative Issue, April 23, 1997, with 96 pages, nm-m. 10-11. “Mario Lemieux: A Tribute,” Collectors Edition from the Penguins, 65 pages, vg+ (cover creases and scuffs, nm pages). 12. Penguins 1992 Commemorative Yearbook, Lemieux cover, “Back to Back Stanley Cup Champions,” 112 pages, ex-m+. 13. “Mario Moments,” promotional folder from Giant Eagle grocery, vg-ex. 14-16. Three 1997 “Tribune-Review” newspaper sections honoring Lemieux, each 2 or 4 pages, April 8, May 4 and Nov. 20, fair. 17. Lemieux portrait on a 5.5” x 9” lid from a box of Leaf 1993-94 hockey cards, ex, minor edge crease. 18. Lemieux 8.25” x 10.25” b&w 1992 print by Dan Stanley, matted to 11” x 14”, nm-m. 19-22. Four 1997 glasses honoring “Mario Lemieux ‘Le Magnifique’” from the Pittsburgh area’s Eat’nPark Restaurant. Each glass has a different black, white and gold illustration on the front. A career highlight is described on the back: First Game, First Shot, First Goal (1984); Stanley Cup Champions (1991); 600th Goal (1997) and Hall of Fame induction (1997). The glasses are nm-m. Eighteen items represent the Penguins generally or other players: 1. Penguin 60” x 34” black, gold and white logo banner, minimal wear, folds and creases. 2. Avon Penguins men’s watch, mint in the original box. 3-4. Two 7.25” x 12” Penguins “2009 Stanley Cup Champions” signs with the team logo, both nm. 5-10. 1997 Burger King set of five Penguins Fotoball hockey pucks for the 1995-96 season and a display stand. Four of the pucks each have two portraits of Penguins players, and the other has the eight players’ facsimile autographs. The player pairs are Lemieux and Nedved, Jagr and Francis, Lalime and Wregget, and Hatcher and Kasparaitis. Nm-m. 11. 2009 “It’s a Hockey Night in Pittsburgh” towel, 24” x 16”, recognizing the Penguins as 2009 Champions. 12-13. Two face coverings with the Penguin logo. Nm. 14. Penguins 1992-2002 logo “Suction Cup Mounted Window Sign” from Fan Waves, nm sign on a vg card. 15. “Great Day for Hockey” car window sign with the Penguin logo, ex. 16. Ticket for a 2004 Penguins home game vs. Montreal, vg+ to ex. 17. 2009 Stanley Cup Champions medallion of Maxime Talbot from a Pittsburgh newspaper, mint in the original package. 18. Penguins 1990-91 yearbook, 104 pages, nm. 19. July 1995 issue of “Beckett Hockey Monthly” with Jaromir Jagr on the cover, ex. 20. Official game puck from Inglasco with the Penguins logo and Gary Bettman’s facsimile signature. Inglasco has supplied NHL pucks since 1979, and Bettman became commissioner in 1993. Nm+ in its original box. 21. 2009 medallion of Alex Goligoski from Activa Global and the “Tribune-Review” newspaper commemorating the Penguins’ Stanley Cup victory. Mint in unopened package. 22.
