Lot 312. 9 “Playboy” Magazines – April Through December 1955. Charles Beaumont, Ray Bradbury, Dave Brubeck, Herbert Gold, W. Somerset Maugham, Shepherd Mead, Roger Price, Irwin Shaw, Earl Wilson and P.G. Wodehouse are just some of the authors represented on the pages of these issues. Fiction, satire, sports, music, humor, art, and contemporary news and events are presented in the stories and articles. In six of these nine issues, the “Playmate of the Month” centerfold is accompanied by two to four additional pages of photos. Two of the Playmates, Miss November and Miss December, are on the magazine’s cover. Two of these models were also three-time Playmates – Janet Pilgrim, July and Dec. 1955 and Oct. 1956; and Marilyn Waltz, Feb. and April 1954 and April 1955. Pilgrim, who is pictured on the Dec. 1955 cover, was an office worker for “Playboy,” and a model. Waltz was an actress and model. In her first “Playboy” appearance, she was billed as “Marilyn Scott.” The other playmates are Marguerite Empey (May), a receptionist for a Hollywood broadcasting company and a drama and dance student who was the Playmate again in Feb. 1956; Eve Meyer (June, born Evelyn Turner), an American pin-up model, motion picture actress and film producer who was married to filmmaker Russ Meyer; Pat Lawler (Aug.), a model; Anne Fleming (Sept.), a dance instructor; Jean Moorehead (Oct.; also spelled her name “Moorhead”), a former Miss Hollywood who acted in the 1956 movie “The Violent Years,” scripted by Ed Wood, and in “Death Valley Days,” the TV western, in 1957; and Barbara Cameron, a model and November Playmate who also is on the magazine cover.
