He was one of five Negro Leagues players included in “The Sporting News” 1999 list of 100 Greatest Baseball Players. He died in 1997. An 18-time All-Star and 16-time Gold Glove recipient, Robinson was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1983, his first year of eligibility, with almost 92 percent of the possible votes. Rookie of the Year, a six-time All-Star and the 1972 N.L. batting champion. He entered the Hall of Fame in 1987.
