Lot 295. Danbury Mint Cooperstown Collection Replicas of the Polo Grounds and Shibe Park. This version of the Polo Grounds was built on Coogan’s Bluff in New York in 1890 and renovated after a fire in 1911. It closed in 1963 and was demolished in 1964. Teams that played there include the New York Giants baseball team from 1891-1957, the New York Yankees from 1913-22, the New York Mets in 1962 and 1963, the New York Giants football team from 1925-55 and the New York Jets from 1960-63. Philadelphia’s Shibe Park, later known as Connie Mack Stadium, hosted the Philadelphia Athletics from 1909-54, the Philadelphia Blue Jays or Phillies from 1938-70 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 1940 and from 1942-57. Negro Leagues teams also played at Shibe Park, and numerous other sports and non-sport events were conducted there. The ballpark was razed in 1976. Both replicas are nm to nm-m.
