1938 and 1944 Chicago Cubs Scorecards.

Lot 283. 1938 and 1944 Chicago Cubs Scorecards. Chicago newspapers issued these scorecards, which have pre-printed lineups on both sides. The 6.25” x 11.25” scorecard from1938, issued by the “Chicago Herald and Examiner,” is for games between the Cubs and Cincinnati. Hall of Fame catcher Ernie Lombardi is in the lineup for the Reds, and Billy Herman and Gabby Hartnett for the Cubs. The 1944 scorecard, 6.25” x 10” and from the “Chicago Herald-American,” offers preprinted lineups for the Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. Among the players are Stan Musial for the Cardinals and Stan Hack and Swish Nicholson for Chicago. Each card has been scored in pencil on each side. The actual lineups has been added, and some pre-printed name have been written over. Paul Derringer, an All-Star in 1938, is written in as the Reds’ pitcher for one game. The scorecards are undated. The presence of Tony Lazzeri on the Cubs’ roster determines the date of the 1938 program; he played for the Cubs only during that season. Stan Musial and Al Jurisich were Cardinals teammates only in 1944, the date of the other program. The scorecards are g-vg, folded and creased without tears. Winning Bid $20.
