Lot 273. Photos Signed by 9 College Football Coaches (3 HoFers) and 2 Heisman Trophy Winners. Johnny Lujack and Steve Owens, the Heisman stars, are also in the College Football Hall of Fame. A star quarterback at Notre Dame, Lujack earned the Heisman Trophy in 1947, when he was also named the AP Athlete of the Year. He led Notre Dame to AP championships in 1943, 1946 and 1947. (His college career was interrupted by service in World War II.) From 1948-51, he played defensive back and then quarterback for the Chicago Bears. He was selected for the Pro Bowl in 1950 and 1951, led the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns in 1949, and in rushing touchdowns (11) in 1950. In 1969, Owens received the Heisman Trophy and the Walter Camp Award while playing tailback on a 6-4 Oklahoma team. While there, he set career records for rushing yards and points per game. Drafted by Detroit, he became the first Lions player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. Lujack and Owens each autographed a separate 8” x 10” black & white photo and added the year of his Heisman award. Lujack’s signature is gem mint 10, and Owens’, mint 9. Unless otherwise noted, the coaches’ autographs are mint 9 or gem mint 10 on color photos approximately 8” x 10”. The Hall of Fame coaches are: Bobby Bowden, two national championships with Florida, 1976-2009, and 12 ACC titles; he signed a 4” x 5.75” photo. Bowden died in 2021. Mack Brown, a national championship and two Big 12 titles with Texas, 1998-2013; nm-m 8 to mint 9 signature personalized to Austin. And Jim Tressel, 2002 Bowl Champions Series National Title with Ohio State, where he coached 2001-10; signature personalized to Theresa. Les Miles, 2005-16 LSU, 2019-20 Kansas. Ed Orgeron, LSU 2016-21, signature as “Coach ‘O’” personalized to Gary.
