Autographed Book: “Maroon Gold, A History of Sun Devil Athletics.

Lot 273. Autographed Book: “Maroon Gold, A History of Sun Devil Athletics. This book on Arizona State sports is signed by six famous coaches, student-athletes or both: Rob Evans, Ned Wulk, Senon “Baldy” Castillo, Bruce Snyder, Bill Kajikawa and Pat Murphy. As Arizona State’s head basketball coach from 1958-82, Wulk compiled a 406-272 record – the most wins ever among ASU basketball coaches. He led his teams to 17 winning season in 25 years. He died in 2003. ASU’s track and field coach for 29 seasons, Castillo was highly respected among his peers. Thirty-four of his athletes earned All-America honors, and his competitors also captured 10 NCAA individual titles and 13 Olympic medals. He died in 2009. Snyder, ASU’s head football coach 1992-2000, died in 2009. Under head baseball coach Pat Murphy 1995-2009, the Sun Devils won the Pac-10 Conference championship in 2000 and consecutive Pac-10 championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Twice from 2000-2009, Murphy’s teams finished in the Top 3 in the country. During one streak, his teams were in the Top 25 for 100 consecutive weeks. He now is the bench coach for the Milwaukee Brewers. Kajikawa passed away in 2010. He coached at Arizona State from 1937 until his retirement in 1978. During that time, he was the school’s freshman football coach for nine different head coaches. He was Arizona State's head basketball coach from 1948-57, and from 1947-57, he was head coach of the ASU club baseball team. In 1968, he was inducted into the Arizona Basketball Hall of Fame. Kevin Keating authenticated the signatures, which are mint 9 and gem mint 10. They are all on a page separated from the book. Another page is autographed by Bob Eger, the publication’s author.
