Lot 262. Mini-Helmet Signed by Philadelphia Eagles HoF End Pete Pihos. All-American honors at Indiana University in 1942, 1943 and 1945 earned Pihos a place in the College Hall of Fame. His college career was interrupted World War II. Serving in the U.S. Army’s 35th Infantry Division under George S. Patton, he received a battlefield commission as a second lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star and Silver Star for bravery. After college, in nine seasons as an end with Philadelphia, he helped the Eagles to win NFL championships in 1948 and 1949 and was selected six times for the Pro Bowl and as a first-team All-Pro. He led the NFL in receptions three times, in receiving yards twice and was the co-leader in touchdown receptions in 1953. He was named to the NFL 1940s All-Decade Team and inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1970. Pihos’ autograph is gem mint 10 on an Eagles nm-m mini-helmet by Riddle. He added “HOF ‘70’” below his signature. Pihos died in 2011. PSA/DNA Pre-Certified. Winning Bid $25.
