Lot 258. 7 Publications, Primarily “Ebony” and “Black Sports,” with Black Stars on the Covers. Complete magazines; labels are noted. Hank Aaron is on four covers, including the Dec. 13, 1973 issue of “Jet” with his wife, ex, and the Sept. 1973 edition of “Ebony,” label, vg+ to ex, excellent Aaron photo. He shares the cover of the June 1970 “Ebony” with Pete Rose, Bob Gibson, Willie McCovey, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Carl Yastrzemski, Frank Robinson, Frank Howard and Juan Marichal, label, vg+. On another “Ebony” issue, from May 1975, he is pictured with photos of O. J. Simpson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bob Lanier, and Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton, label, vg+ to ex. There are two issues of “Black Sports”: Sept. 1971 with several Olympians, ink mark, vg-ex, and March 1972, Wilt Chamberlain, ex. In addition, the 128-page “Triumph of the Spirit” provides “A Centennial Celebration of African American Olympians – Past, Present, Future – 1896-1996.” This softcover book is extensively illustrated with photos and written profiles of athletes such as Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph, Muhammad Ali, Carl Lewis, Jackie Joyner Kersee, Michael Johnson, Gail Devers, the Basketball Dream Teams and many more Nm-m.
