Lot 232. 7 Signed Baseball Books – Ripken, Jenkins, Minoso, Bouton and Lee. This collection consists of biographies, memoirs and a self-help book. All are hardbacks. Two books are by Cal Ripken, Jr. “The Longest Season: The Story of the Orioles’ 1988 Losing Streak” is aimed at younger readers. Extensively illustrated by Ron Mazellan, the 2007 stated first impression book is nm-m with an ex-m dust jacket. Ripken’s autograph on the page facing the title page is large and gem mint 10. In “Get in the Game,” Ripken presents “8 Elements of Perseverance That Make the Difference.” He discusses in detail the elements, which include the right values and a strong will to succeed. Written with Donald T. Phillips, the 2007 book, a first edition, is mint with an ex-m to nm dust jacket. Ripken’s title page signature is mint 9. Ferguson Jenkins is the other Hall of Fame signer - on the title page of his 1973 first edition autobiography, “Like Nobody Else: the Ferguson Jenkins story as told to George Vass.” Jenkins’ autograph is mint 9. The book is nm, and the dj, vg-ex. Minnie Minoso tells the story of his life and career in “Just Call Me Minnie: My Six Decades in Baseball,” written with Herb Fagan, 1994 first edition, nm-m book and ex-m to nm dj with Minoso’s gem mint 10 signature on the flyleaf. Jim Bouton, the New York Yankees pitcher, presents baseball stories in two books, both with personalized autographs on the first title page, one mint 9 and the other, gem mint 10. Both are dated 6-27-93. The titles are “I’m Glad You Didn’t Take It Personally,” with Leonard Shecter, 1971 first edition ex-m book and vg+ dj. And “I Managed Good, But Boy Did They Play Bad” with Neil Offen, 1973 first edition, ex book and vg-ex dj with sunning on the spine. Another pitcher, Bill Lee, is responsible for the final book in this collection – “The Wrong Stuff,” 1984 first edition, ex-m+ book, vg+ to ex dj, gem mint 10 flyleaf signature, written with Dick Lally.
