Bill Veeck Autographed “The Hustler’s Handbook.”

Lot 231. Bill Veeck Autographed “The Hustler’s Handbook.” In this entertaining 1965 apparent first edition hardback, Veeck and co-author Ed Linn offer stories and opinions on numerous baseball figures, teams and events, including Judge Landis, Gussie Busch, Rabbit Maranville, Yogi Berra, Branch Rickey, the sale of the New York Yankees to CBS, the rise of the New York Mets and more. They provide new insights on the Black Sox Scandal based on the diary of Harry Grabiner, once the secretary for the Chicago White Sox. Veeck placed a mint 9 to gem mint 10 autograph on the book’s flyleaf. The book is near fine, tightly bound with some discoloration toward the bottom of the back cover. The dust jacket is g+ to vg, price-clipped with some soiling and a small chip and a crease on the front. Veeck was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991, five years after his passing in 1986. Linn wrote for “The Saturday Evening Post” and other publications, cooperated with Sandy Koufax and other baseball stars on their autobiographies, and created articles on other and sports and non-sport topics. Minimum Bid $50.
