Mike Schmidt Signed First Edition of His 2006 Book “Clearing the Bases.”

Lot 230. Mike Schmidt Signed First Edition of His 2006 Book “Clearing the Bases.” Schmidt’s 199-page hardback examines what’s right and what’s wrong with baseball. His topics include astronomical payrolls, steroid-enhanced home run champions, the shortage of multi-talented hitters, owners and players indifferent to their fans, and the overall integrity of the game. During his playing career from 1972-89, Schmidt established himself as the best hitter ever among third basemen. He hit 548 homes runs, was a three-time N.L. MVP and 12-time All-Star and earned 10 Gold Gloves. He was selected for MLB’s All-Century Team in 1999 and was ranked the 28th best player of the century by “The Sporting News.” In his first year of eligibility in 1995, Schmidt was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame with support from 96.5 percent of the voters. His autograph on the book’s flyleaf is gem mint 10. The book is nm-m in an nm dust jacket. Minimum Bid $35.
