Denny McLain Nicely Signed Oct. 5, 1968 “The Sporting News.”

Lot 197. Denny McLain Nicely Signed Oct. 5, 1968 “The Sporting News.” McLain shares the cover of the tabloid’s World Series Issue with Lefty Grove. His signature is mint 9 to gem mint 10 on his jersey. The Detroit Tigers won the Series against the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. McLain was the losing pitcher for Detroit in two games, but working on only two days’ rest, he limited the Cardinals to a single run as his teammates scored 13 times. For the 1968 season, McLain earned A.L. Cy Young and MVP honors. He was the Cy Young winner again in 1969. The magazine is complete. It has two clipped corners, a name in the upper border and edge foxing, which could be matted out for display. There as is a small tear next to Grove’s image. Winning Bid $45.
