Johnny Bench Autograph on the Cover of the July 17, 1976 “The Sporting News.”

Lot 194. Johnny Bench Autograph on the Cover of the July 17, 1976 “The Sporting News.” Very nice mint 9 to gem mint 10 blue Sharpie signature below an artist’s depictions of the Hall of Fame catcher. The “All-Star Game Preview” edition of the tabloid is complete. A subtle horizontal crease is visible across the center. Foxing along the edges could be matted out, enabling the signed publication to become a gorgeous display piece. Bench was selected for the All-Star Game 14 times in 17 seasons. He was the 1968 N.L. Rookie of the Year, a two time league MVP, and a 10-time Gold Glove recipient. He led the N.L. in home runs two times, and in RBI, three times. He was a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection in 1989. At No. 16, he was the highest ranked catcher in “TSN”s Baseball’s 100 Greatest Players. Winning Bid $25.
