Lot 165. 12 Baseball Autographs Including Hunter, Killebrew and Leonard. Jim Catfish Hunter (died 1999) signed a Quaker State 4X4 Legends 9” x 11.5” color print by Gene Locklear; nm-m 8 autograph. Hunter was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1987. The autograph of Harmon Killebrew (d. 2011) is mint 9 on an unlined index card; the lower right corner is clipped – well away from the autograph. Killebrew became a Hall of Fame member in 1984. Walter Buck Leonard’s signature extends across most of a 1.5” x 5” section of paper matted and framed with a Perez-Steele postcard. The autograph is nm 7 with no defects. The 13-time All-Star first baseman for the Homestead Grays entered the Hall of Fame in 1972. He died in 1997. “The Sporting News” ranked him 47th among baseball’s top 100 players. The other autographs are at least mint 9; unless otherwise noted, they are on 8” x 10” color photos. Julio Becquer (died 2020), sepia photo, first baseman for the Senators, Angels and Twins. Alvin Davis, 1984 A.L. Rookie of the Year, first baseman for the Mariners and Angels. Ned Garver (d. 2017), 1951 All-Star, pitched for the Browns, Tigers, Athletics and Angels. Maury McDermott (d. 2003), pitcher for eight teams, including the Yankees and Red Sox. Willie Tasby, autographs on sepia or b&w photos representing three of the four teams he played for as an outfielder – the Orioles, Senators and Angels.
