Lot 385.  Extensive Pittsburgh Pirates Autograph, Pennant, Card, Yearbook and Memorabilia Collection. Pittsburgh Pirates Autograph, Pennant, Card, Yearbook and Memorabilia Collection. This diverse collection contains numerous items to decorate a family or other room in the house of an avid Pirates fan. 1. PENNANTS: Two full-sized pennants, each with the Pirate mascot logo used from 1967-87. One 1970s pennant promotes Nickles Bread. It has characteristics of Pirates’ pennants from 1971 and 1979 - the mascot, Three Rivers Stadium and “Pittsburgh Pirates” in two type styles. G, tip very slightly clipped. The second pennant is similar to the first, but it depicts a batter and the mascot; the stadium is absent. G-vg, soiling, several tack holes, creases and an intact tip. 2. AUTOGRAPHS: 17 autographs, various media. Baseballs are single-signed by - Zack Duke (added “57”, mint 9 Rawlings CROLB Official League ball, nm-m 8 to mint 9 autograph); Willie Stargell (died 2001; mint 9 Official Dina-Mated League ball, vg 3 to vg-ex 4 smudged signature); and Jim Tracy (added “23”, mint 9 Rawlings CROLB OL ball, nm-m 8 to mint 9 autograph). Three 8” x 10” color photos are autographed, one each by Bob Friend (died 2019; nm 7 to nm-m 8 signature), Al Mochak (d. 2015, gem mint 10) and Joe Lonnettt (d. 2011, gem mint 10. Three different 8 ½” x 11” photos have an autograph. Bill Mazeroski signed a b&w composite photo with scenes from his historic walk-off home run in 1960 World Series Game 7. His autograph is large and bold, gem mint 10. The other signatures, on color photos, are by Mike Easler (added “Hit Man”, mint 9 to gem mint 10 signature) and Omar Moreno (added “18”, mint 9 to gem mint 10). John Candelaria, Elroy Face, Grant Jackson and Vernon Law (added “C.Y. 1960”) each signed a 4” x 6 ½” team-issued card with his photo; mint 9 to gem mint 10. Steve Blass autographed a 3 ½” x 5” b&w card; nm 7 to nm-m 8 signature. Three team-issued 3 ¾” x 5 ¼” black & white cards have facsimile signatures: Ed Kirkpatrick, Jerry Reuss and Jim Rooker. In addition, a 1963 Pirates yearbook is signed on the front cover by John Candelaria, Grant Jackson and PITTSBURGH STEELERS Hall of Famer cornerback Mel Blount, who added “HOF 89.” Mint 9. 3. YEARBOOKS: 1973 yearbook, 64 pages loaded with photos, including Clemente, Mazeroski and Stargell. G cover, vg+ to ex pages. 1975 yearbook, 64 pages with a “Removable Pirate Historical Calendar” that has not been removed. Vg cover, vg-ex to ex pages. 4. SCOREBOOKS or PROGRAMS: Two from 1972 and one from 1980. One 1972 scorebook is for a game with Philadelphia, ex, and the other, for a game with San Diego, vg-ex. Drawings of Pirates players, including Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell, are on the covers. The 50-page 1980 scorebook has the “Pittsburgh Pirates World Champions 1979” flag on the g cover; ex pages. 5. MAGAZINES or TABLOIDS: June 1952 “Sport,” Ralph Kiner cover, vg cover, ex pages. Sept. 1971 “All-Star Sports,” Willie Stargell and Rust Staub cover, g cover, ex pages. 1991 “Street & Smith’s Baseball,” Doug Drabek cover, vg cover, ex pages. Feb. 28, 1970 “The Sporting News,” stunning Roberto Clemente cover portrait, tear on the back cover, otherwise ex. 6. COCA-COLA COLLECTOR CUPS: Four cups, each with an artists’ drawing of a 1950s-60 Pirates player - Roberto Clemente, Dick Groat, Vernon Law and Bill Mazeroski. Ex-m. 7. Cloth “Let’s Go Bucs! GREEN WEENIE with a filled flexible interior. 8. BOBBLE HEADS: Two, Ryan Doumit and Al Oliver in the original boxes. Both were PNC Park promotions. 9. PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE “’73 PIRATE ALBUM” photos with biographical information. Twenty-two players from a set of 24 - Alley, Blass, Cash, Clines, Davalillo, Ellis, Giusti, Hebner, J. Hernandez, R. Hernandez, Johnson, Kison, May, Miller, Oliver, Robertson, Sands, Sanguillen, Stargell, Stennett, Virdon and Walker. Clipped from the newspaper, f-vg. 10. “UPPER DECK HEROES of BASEBALL All-Star Game July 11, 1994,” 17 sheets the same on card stock promoting the 1994 All-Star game and featuring artwork of Steve Garvey, Reggie Jackson, Bill Mazeroski, Willie Stargell and Chuck Tanner. Nm. 11. 1994 “The Summit Collection” ROBERTO CLEMENTE unsigned set of 5 cards with a Certificate of Authenticity. These cards, by The Trading Card Company, Inc., present beautifully in a large holder and appear to be nm-m. 12. “BUCS ARE CHAMPS” 1960 Pittsburgh newspaper. This Oct. 14 Souvenir Edition of the “Pittsburgh Post-Gazette” celebrates Bill Mazeroski’s World Series winning home run the day before. It has a photo of Mazeroski preparing to cross home plate. With some relatively minor chips and tears, the newsprint stock is showing its age but it remains delightfully displayable. This collection has significant break-up potential, especially with our starting bid of less than $1 per item!
