Lot 421.  Jimmy Carter Autographed 1976 Presidential Campaign Brochure. The front of the 4” x 9” green, black and white brochure pictures Governor Carter with his running mate, Walter Mondale. In the 1976 Presidential race, Carter defeated Gerald Ford, 297 electoral votes to 240. Authenticated by Kevin Keating, Carter’s autograph on the brochure is nm-m 8. The brochure summarizes the position of the Carter-Mondale team on a variety of issues.

Lot 422.  Rudy Giuliani Autographed Baseball. Mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001, Giuliani is credited with initiating programs that reduced crime in the city. For his leadership after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, he was selected as “Time” magazine’s Person of the Year. Kevin Keating authenticated the autograph, which is nm-m 8 on the sweet spot of a mint Rawlings Official League ball.

Lot 424.  Mitt Romney Autographed “Believe in America” Broadside. The 13” x 19” red, white and blue sign conveys the theme of Romney’s 2012 Presidential campaign. The broadside, which has a 1” tear along a bottom edge, is printed on both sides. The Republican candidate signed one side in black sharpie. Kevin Keating authenticated the autograph, which is mint 9.

Lot 425.  Mitt Romney Autographed Attack Ad from the 2012 Presidential Campaign. Prepared by Americans for Tax Reform, the mailed ad pictures President Obama and claims that his “policies add trillions to the debt,” “plague millions of small businesses” and cost workers their jobs. Romney, the 2012 Republican Presidential candidate, signed the 8.5” x 11” ad in red sharpie. Kevin Keating authenticated the autograph, which is mint 9.

Lot 426.  Leather-Bound Signed Book: “100 Years of Presidential Elections 1864-1964.” Published by the Washington, D.C., “Evening and Sunday Star,” this book reproduces front pages of the newspaper presenting the results of Presidential elections. John Kaufmann, president of the newspaper, signed the 8.75’ x 11.12” book, which is nm with leather covers. Inside, there is some foxing on two parchment-like pages. Gold lettering on the cover identifies the book as belonging to Margaret Haywood, believe to be the late D.C. Superior Court senior judge and member of D.C. Council. Scarce and wonderful book!

Lot 427.  Grover Cleveland Inauguration “Order of Procession” and State of the Union Message. Vintage publications from 1893 at the outset of President Cleveland’s second term. The “Order of Procession for the Inauguration” is a two-panel 5.25” x 7.75” document outlining activities before and after the President takes the oath of office. The capitol and White House are nicely lithographed on the covers. This publication has a 3” spine split and a heavy horizontal crease. The softcover copy of the President’s “message … communicated to the Two House of Congress” consumes 30 pages in a 5.75” x 9” format. G+, 1” spine splits at the top and bottom.

Lot 428.  President William McKinley 1901 Inauguration Program and Other Publications. Scarce “Official Souvenir Program” for McKinley’s second inauguration on March 4, 1901. The covers are missing, and the edges are chipped and stained. Serviceable reference or reading copy of a seldom-seen publication. Two 1901 supplements from the “Boston Sunday Journal” have Mrs. McKinley on the cover. The March 3 issue provides inauguration coverage and has a two-page photo of the President and Vice-President Teddy Roosevelt. Mrs. McKinley is the focus of the June 2 edition. In it, she writes “I will be glad when he is out of public life. I did not want him to run a second time. I thought he had done enough for the country … and when this term expires he will come home and we will settle down quietly and he will belong to me.” Of course, McKinley was assassinated three months later. Both supplements are vg-ex. An eight-page program provides information for the Inaugural Grand Concerts for McKinley’s 1897 inauguration; f. There also is an article on the 1901 inaugural ball from the May 1901 issue of “The Delineator.”

Lot 429.  President Theodore Roosevelt Inauguration Article, Sheet Music, Etc. Roosevelt completed the first term of President William McKinley and was elected President in 1904. A special March 4, 1905 issue of the magazine “Washington Life” provides 11 pages covering Roosevelt’s inauguration. Each page is illustrated. The front cover is stained and chipped; part of the back cover is missing. The interior is vg-ex. President Roosevelt is on the cover of 1910 sheet music titled “When Teddy Comes Marching Home”; repair inside, complete, g+. These items are accompanied by a 1958 booklet “Letters of Theodore Roosevelt: Civil Service Commissioner 1889-1895,” 52 pages published by the Civil Service Commission, ex. Also, a reproduction of a 1912 campaign bandana that depicts Roosevelt wearing his “Rough Rider” hat. Nm-m. And a 1931 calendar promotion with an image of Roosevelt, ex.

Lot 430.  President Woodrow Wilson Vintage Die-Cut, Books, Panorama and Other Memorabilia. This collection includes books by or about Wilson, an inauguration panorama and more. Here is a list of the items: 1. Circa 1915 die-cut 12” x 17.5” display with a photo of Wilson, a flag on each side and an eagle above. The heavy-paper display has a leather-like finish. It is fragile and exhibits a number of scuffs, tears and creases. Nevertheless, it is an uncommon attention grabber. 2. Lithographed 5.5” x 22” panoramic photo of Wilson’s second inauguration in 1917; rolled, g+ to vg. 3. Souvenir program “in honor of Hon. Woodrow Wilson and Party” at B. F. Keith’s Theatre in D.C., Dec. 1917. The program lists performances by musicians and vaudeville performers. Vg and rare! Lot 431.  6 Newspapers or Sections, 1929-69, Featuring Presidential Elections or Inaugurations. The March 14, 1929 “Washington Herald” provides a 12-page “Post-Inaugural Section” on the inauguration of Herbert Hoover and his vice-president, Charles Curtis. Both officials are the subjects of large photos on the first page. Vg. Washington’s Jan. 20, 1949 “Evening Star” has three sections on the inauguration of Harry Truman. He is pictured on the front page of the complete paper. Vg-ex. Inside, the paper has a “Special Inaugural Gravure Section – The Truman Story in Pictures.” This six-page section is ex. A similar special section presents scenes of past inaugurations. Vg-ex. Portraits of President Dwight Eisenhower, Vice-President Richard Nixon and their wives adorn the cover page of a 20-page “Inaugural Souvenir Section” from the Jan. 21, 1957 “Evening Star.” The section contains interesting historical information on inaugurations and the Presidents. Ex. In its Jan. 20, 1969 “Special Inaugural Section,” the “Evening Star” offers a full-page cover portrait of President Nixon. F front page, g-vg overall. Lot 432.  7 Publications from the 1932 George Washington Bicentennial Celebration and a Print. In 1932, a special commission led a celebration marking the 200th anniversary of Washington’s birth. Lasting from Feb. 22-Thanksgiving Day, the program is outlined in a 32-page booklet that includes a list of books on Washington. Part of the results of the celebration are detailed in a 726-page hardbound 9.5” x 12.25” book “History of the George Washington Bicentennial Celebration: Foreign Participation.” Ex and containing a number of photos showing how Washington was honored around the world. Groups planning celebrations honoring Washington no doubt found useful information in a 16-page softcover publication, “Pageant and Plays Depicting the Life of George Washington and His Time for the Nation-Wide Celebration in 1932,” vg-ex. Four publications present or relate to music: 1. “My Washington Grand,” words and music by Lawrence Stoddard Graebing, 1930, ex-m. 2. Program for “Cantata ‘Washington’” presented at Constitution Hall in 1932, vg. 3. “The Music of George Washington’s Time,” 36-page softcover with reference information and music, vg-ex. 4. “Music from the Days of George Washington: Album of Military Marches,” 12 pages (including covers), music for six marches, vg-ex. This collection also includes a 4.25” x 12.25” print with portraits of President and Martha Washington and an image of their home at Mt. Vernon. Lot 433.  President Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt Memorabilia. One of the unusual and especially uncommon items in the collection of photos, publications and other paper items is a 1942 comic titled “The Life of Franklin D. Roosevelt” and produced by the U.S. Government. The 20-page comic is ex with a stamp from a high school showing lightly on the front cover. The story of his life is presented in greater detail in the “Roosevelt Album,” a 92-page pulp-magazine format publication, by A. J. Ezickson. G-vg. Another key publication is the official program for Roosevelt’s 1941 inauguration. It is nm in the original, unused ex mailing envelope. There also are three numbered vehicle passes for his 1937 inauguration, vg to vg-ex. The President is shown in two 8” x 10” photos, and Mrs. Roosevelt, in one. A vintage U.S. Army Signal Corps photo captures the President in a thoughtful pose at his desk; g. He is also shown signing a document in a reproduction photo. Eleanor Roosevelt is in an original 1940 AP wire photo with actress Mary Pickford as she appeals for help in the campaign against polio. G+ with editing marks. Other items in this collection are: 1. Lot 434.  Vintage Circa 1935 Hand-Held Fan Featuring Portraits of the U.S. Presidents. One side of the 8.75” x 8.5” fan presents portraits of the Presidents from George Washington through Franklin D. Roosevelt and asks “Who Will be Next?” The reverse has very brief biographical information on each President. The front displays nicely with several moderate to heavy creases. The back has several areas of paper loss, which has very minimal effects on the type. The fan promotes the Hubert Coal Co. of New Hampshire.

Lot 435.  2 Books on World War II by Dwight D. Eisenhower. Both books are apparent first editions. Before serving as U.S. President from 1953-61, Eisenhower commanded Allied forces in Europe in World War II and served as president of Columbia University after the war. The earlier of the books is the softcover “Eisenhower’s Own Story of the War,” 1946, 122 well illustrated pages in an 8.5” x 11” format. Vg+ copy with soiling and a small area of paper loss on the front cover; ex pages. “Crusade in Europe” is a 1948 hardcover by Eisenhower. The illustrated book is vg+ to ex in a g dust jacket.
