Lot 436.  Eisenhower vs. Stevenson - “The Campaign of ’52 in (Evening) Star Cartoons.” This 1952 softcover from Washington, D.C.’s “Evening Star” newspaper features political cartoons by James T. Berrryman and Gibson Crockett. Berryman won a Pulitzer Prize for his cartoons. Crockett became the newspaper’s chief editorial cartoonist in 1963, and he illustrated the covers of Navy football programs for more than 40 years. In this publication, Newbold Noyes, Jr. weaves the cartoons into an entertaining year in review of presidential politics. Noyes became the newspaper’s editor in 1963. Cartoons in the 92-page 8” x 10.” softcover depict Dwight Eisenhower, Adlai Stevenson, President Truman, Senators Taft and Kefauver and other political figures. Lot 437.  1953 and 1957 Eisenhower Official Inauguration Programs and an Inaugural Festival Program. Both programs are accompanied by the original mailing envelope. The 48-page 1953 program for the inauguration of Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon as president and vice-president is nm. The envelope is addressed and g-vg. A Norman Rockwell portrait of the President and Vice-President is on the cover of the 1957 inaugural program. Vg+ to ex, 48 pages. The unused envelope is g-vg. The program for the 1953 Inaugural Festival, held the day before the inauguration, shows toning along the edges and otherwise is ex. The 16-page program has photos of Eisenhower and Nixon and lists appearances or performances by Abbott and Costello, Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca, Hoagy Carmichael, Helen Hayes, Ethel Merman, Ed Sullivan, Guy Lombardo, Lionel Hampton, Fred Waring, Jan Peerce, the New York City Centre Ballet and others. The programs come with an 8” x 10” sepia photo of Eisenhower in a parade for him in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 18, 1952. Vg-ex.

Lot 438.  1964 “Goldwater for President” 11” x 17” Poster and a Related Booklet. With the U.S. economy doing well, U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona faced an uphill battle in challenging incumbent President Lyndon B. Johnson for the presidency in 1964. His strong conservative stance caused problems for him within his own Republican party. He lost in a landslide to Lyndon Johnson, carrying only six states and losing the popular vote, 61 percent to 38 percent. This red, black, blue and white poster from Citizens for Goldwater-Miller, displays very nicely with a crease in the upper left corner and a scratch on “RES” near the bottom. An accompanying 24-page booklet was issued after Goldwater announced his candidacy for President on Jan. 3, 1964. In the booklet, titled “Senator Goldwater Speaks Out on the Issues,” the candidate offers a summary of his positions on more than 15 topics. Ex+.
