In 1983, Mantle issued a limited edition of 1953 prints made from the same artwork that was used to produce his 1953 Topps card. He offered the 14 ¾” x 19 ½” color prints for $999.99. He also offered 53 artist proofs at $2,499.99 each. This print, #204, is nm-m. Mantle signed it at the bottom in pencil, and his signature is 10 of 10. Comes with the offering letter and print number from Mantle plus a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA dated 2005.

Lot 97. 1963 M118 Baseball Magazine Premium Signed by Lefty Grove. The sepia 8 ½” x 11” premium has small tape stains in each corner and otherwise is vg-ex because of corner creases. The image area is very clean and free of any significant creases. The signature in blue ballpoint is large and bold, 10 of 10. Lot 99. 8” x 10” Photo Signed by Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays, Duke Snider. This black & white photo is matted and framed to about 17 ¾” x 16”. All four Hall of Fame players signed in sharpie, and the signatures of Mantle, DiMaggio and Snider are 10s. The Mays signatures rates 9-10. Mantle personalized his signature “To Tommy” and added “Best Wishes.” Comes with a PSA-DNA LoA signed by Steve Grad. Also, authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 100. Hand-Painted Limited-Edition Animation Cel Autographed by Johnny Bench. If the image of Bench in this cel looks familiar, it’s probably because you saw a similar picture on a Wheaties box in 1989. Sam Viviano, a New York illustrator who specializes in humorous caricatures, recreated the image in 1996 for this hand-painted cel. Produced by Toon Art, the cel is about 12” x 17” matted and framed to 19 ½” x 24”. The cel is #43 of 250 produced. Both Viviano and Bench signed the cel. Bench’s signature in black sharpie is large, bold and 10 of 10. The cel comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Toon Art and a photo of Bench signing the cels. Lot 102. Barry Bonds Autograph on a Rawlings “Big Stick” Bonds Professional Model Bat. Text on the bat notes that Bonds was a “4 Time MVP,” with Pittsburgh in 1990 and 1992, and with San Francisco in 1993 and 2001. The bat is 34” long and nm-m. Bond’s sharpie signature is a 10. Certificate of Authenticity from “Barry Bonds Authenticated 25” and Kent Collectibles.

Lot 103. Rare Handwritten Letter from John T. Brush, Baseball Pioneer and Giants Owner, to his friend, Harry M. Stevens. It was Stevens, a concessionaire, who loaned money to Brush to rebuild when the Polo Ground grandstand burned in 1911. An organizer and president of the National League franchise established in Indianapolis in 1887, Brush went on to become one of baseball’s more controversial figures. Sometimes mentioned as a Hall of Fame candidate, he helped spark the Players’ League revolt, and he continually battled Ban Johnson and the American League. With John McGraw, he also turned the New York Giants into one of the N.L.’s most successful teams. He bought control of the Giants in 1902 and won four pennants by the time of his death in 1912. Brush’s letter, written on hotel stationery in San Antonio, Texas, thanks Stevens for a case of whiskey. He wrote, “As I am reducing the size of my drinks and finding that I can get as well loaded on small drinks if I take enough of them as I could on the larger ones, I will have booze to ship back to New York.” Dated March 27, 1911, the letter covers one and one-half pages. Brush signed “John T. Brush” in black fountain pen. The letter is ex with mailing folds, and the signature is 10 of 10. Comes with the original envelope. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 105. Baseballs Related to the All-Star Game Signed by Ken Griffey and Junior. Nm-m ONL Coleman ball is signed on the sweet spot by Ken Griffey, who added “3 X All Star.” Ballpoint signature is a 10. Away from the signature, the ball has two pervious authentication stickers; there is no certificate to go with these stickers. On a side panel of an official ball, probably game-used, from the 1992 All-Star Game, Ken Griffey Jr. placed his name in ballpoint and added “MVP.” His signature also is a 10. Lot 106. Brace Real-Photo Postcard Signed by George Halas, New York Yankee Outfielder. Best known as a founder of the National Football League and the successful coach of the Chicago Bears football team, Halas also was an excellent athlete. He played pro football, and for part of the 1919 season, he was a Yankees outfielder. He collected two hits in 12 games. Halas is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. With a felt-tip pen, he signed a reproduction postcard produced by George Brace. The signature is 10 of 10 and couldn’t be stronger. Halas died in 1983. Autographed photos of Halas as a baseball player are very scarce. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 108. Homestead Grays Replica Cap Autographed by HoF First Baseman Buck Leonard. Known as “the Lou Gehrig of the Negro Leagues,” Leonard teamed with Josh Gibson, as Gehrig did with Babe Ruth, to form a powerful home run tandem. He batted .355 lifetime. In 11 games against major league pitchers, he hit .382. Unfortunately, by the time the majors began readmitting black players, Leonard was judged to be too old. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972. He died in 1997. His signature in white on the black bill of the cap is an outstanding 10. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
