Lot 13. 19th Century “Reward of Merit” with a Baseball Scene. Rewards of Merit were presented to students for good behavior and performance by their teachers in the 1800s. This scene has been variously dated from the 1850s through the 1870s. This example is approximately 3” x 6.5”, hand-colored, and double-matted and framed to 9” x 11. The student and teacher’s names are filled in and shows light, brief pencil writing above “Reward.” The certificate has a very minor stain below the “t” in “Merit” and appears to be free of creases.

Lot 14. 1878 H804-6 Forbes Co. Partial Set – 4 of 6 Cards. Generally, these cards are regarded as the first of the baseball trade card sets. This group includes Foul, Home Run, Muff and Twist. Fly and Judgment are missing. All have blank backs; two have a price sticker on the back, one has tape residue at the top and bottom, and one has moderate writing on the back. Lot 15. 1882 H804-11 Cosack & Co. Circled Position Trade Card – Catcher. Featuring Peck & Snyder advertising on the back, this card has been trimmed vertically by 7/8”, to 3 3/8” x 4 5/8”. The image of the player and his position are fully present; advertising at the bottom has been removed. As trimmed, the card grades vg-ex.

Lot 17. 1909-11 T206 Frank Chance Batting (Old Mill Back). The card has a stain confined primarily to the left and bottom borders. It is free of creases. Without the stain, it would be vg-ex, making vg-ex (st) an appropriate grade.
