  42 Lots       »

Lot 490.  Ticket for a 1929 Labor Day Police v. Firemen Baseball Game at Griffith Stadium. Beautiful unused ticket for a benefit game in Washington D.C.’s “American League Park” between the Metropolitan Police and Firemen’s Relief Association Funds. Played to benefit widows and orphans, this event epitomizes the spirit of early 20th century baseball. Measures 2 ¼” x 5, ex-m with some fading along the top edge.
Winning Bid $15.

Lot 491.  1930s-40s St. Louis Browns Sportsman’s Park Unused Ticket. Paper ticket issued by the Browns providing admission to the Grand Stand. Dates between 1937-45 because it bears a facsimile signature of Donald Barnes, president. Printed on thin paper, unused and vg. Rare.
Winning Bid $20.

Lot 492.  St. Louis Browns Full General Admission Ticket. This ticket is from a spring training game played in either 1948 or 1953 at Perris Hills Stadium in San Bernardino. Those were the only two years that the stadium played host to the Browns. The undated ticket reads “St. Louis Browns Spring Exhibition, Perris Hills Stad. – San Bernardino General Admission – Child 50 cents.” The stadium was built in 1934 and demolished in 1985. The perforations at the rain check portion remain strong as does the appearance of this ex-m rarity.
Minimum Bid $35.

Lot 493.  Boston Red Sox Collection of Programs, Yearbooks, Ted Williams Tributes, Etc. The key to this collection is the 1955 yearbook, a vg-ex copy with tape neatly applied along the spine. Of course, Williams is here, but so are Jackie Jensen, Jimmy Piersall and the ill-fated Harry Agganis. The earliest item is a hardback book, The Red Sox: The Bean and the Cod by Al Hirshberg, 1947, ex book, owner’s name inside, poor dj. 3-6. A.L. Championship Series programs for 1975 nm+, 1986 nm+, 1988 nm+ and 1990 ex-m. Lot 496.  Unused Panel of 1994 Tickets for the Opening of the Texas Rangers New Ballpark. Uncut, unused panel of six tickets for six events marking the opening of the new ballpark, including the first game against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 11. Colorful and nm-m.
Minimum Bid $10.

Lot 497.  Unused March 31, 1998 Ticket for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays’ Inaugural Game. This ticket is surrounded by some of the most dynamic marketing we’ve ever seen. Shaped like a devil-ray, it comes in its own clear-window folder, which promotes Southwest Airlines. Unused nm-m ticket.
Winning Bid $40.

Lot 498.  Detroit Tigers 1929 Spring Training Roster. The team trained in Phoenix. The 6 ¾” x 8” roster has the spring training schedule on the front and player information inside – including each player’s home address. Two future HoFers appear on this roster: second baseman Charlie Gehringer, manager “Bucky” Harris and outfielder Harry Heilman. The roster has been folded twice and has minor scrapbook residue on the back that does not affect the printing. Interesting item from a very different era!
Winning Bid $25.

Lot 499.  1938 Cleveland Indians “Training Schedule and Club Roster.” Tri-fold printed in color on heavy card stock. Roster includes two future HoFers, Earl Averill and Bob Feller. Very attractive. Ex-m.
Winning Bid $25.

Lot 500.  1950 Philadelphia Athletics Connie Mack’s “Golden Jubilee” Roster. To mark Mack’s 50th year as the A’s manager, the team produced this 24-page roster. Great cover art with the A’s elephant mascot. Vg+ to ex.
Winning Bid $20.

Lot 501.  1939 Red Sox at Washington Scorecard with Rookie Ted Williams, Ticket Stub. This scorecard is neatly scored in pencil for the Aug. 8 game, which the Senators won, 2-1. The Boston lineup included rookie right fielder Ted Williams, Jimmy Foxx, Bobby Doerr, Joe Cronin and Moe Berg. The scorecard is ex. The ticket stub (rain check) is glued inside and is ex. Desirable collectible from Williams’ first season.
Winning Bid $61.

Lot 502.  1939 Red Sox at Yankees Program with Williams, DiMaggio in the Printed Lineup. Lou Gehrig appears on the Yankees’ roster, but he had already concluded his career when this game was played. Williams was a rookie. Besides DiMaggio, four other future Hall of Famers were on the New York Roster: Bill Dickey, Lefty Gomez, Red Ruffing, and manager Joe McCarthy. The “Ted Sox” countered with Joe Cronin, Bobby Doerr, Jimmie Foxx and Lefty Grove. Clean, unmarked scorecard that technically is vg-ex because of creases evident close-up; the program has an ex-m appearance.
Winning Bid $35.

Lot 503.  1944 Program for a Testimonial Banquet Honoring Pete Gray. Gray had played many seasons as a semi-pro before his magical 1945 war-time season with the St. Louis Browns. He was named the Southern League MVP in 1944. The award and the purchase of his contract by the Browns apparently was the impetus for the banquet near Gray’s hometown in northeastern Pennsylvania. The program lists Lou Boudreau, Chief Bender, Roger Peckinpaugh and Jimmy Foxx among the guests. Ex with two binder holes.
Winning Bid $50.

Lot 504.  Eastern League Guides for 1947 and 1951, Plus a Southern League Media Guide. Five publications, four from the Eastern League. 1. Silver Anniversary Eastern League Record Book, 1947, spiral bound, small 80-page booklet. Annual league leaders, period advertising. Richie Ashburn was the 1947 leader in runs scored. Ex. 2. Eastern League “Pilot,” 1951, oversized 40-page soft-cover with stapled spine. Annual record book with team rosters including rocky Colavito playing for Wilkes-Barre, vg+ to ex. 3-4. Eastern League Pilots for 1987, 1989. Ex-m and nm, respectively. 5. 1981 Southern League Media Guide, 12-page pamphlet, nm.
Winning Bid $15.
