Baseball Pennants   25 Lots       »

Lot 209.  1950s Pittsburgh Pirates Full-Sized Pennant. Colorful Pirate and white team name on a black field. Ex appearance with slight fraying at the tip and a light stain on “rgh.”
Winning Bid $35.

Lot 210.  Pittsburgh Pirates 1950s, 1979 World Series Pennants. Both are full-sized. The 1950s pennant has the Pirates mascot, in pink, gray and beige, over Forbes Field. Gold on black lettering. Vg+ to ex, displays very well. The World Series pennant, which has a large image of the Pirates mascot and a rendering of Three Rivers Stadium, is dated 1979 and notes that the Pirates are the “National League Champions.” Ex black on gold example.
Winning Bid $83.

Lot 211.  Scarce 1958 Pittsburgh Pirates Scroll Pennant with Clemente, Mazeroski, Kluszewski. Full-sized pennant in white on a red field presents Danny Murtaugh as the manager and lists 18 players in the scroll. Foiles is incorrectly spelled “Foile.” Among the other players are Virdon, Skinner, Thomas, Groat, Face and Law. Friend is the most obvious name that is absent. Tack holes on the gold strip at the left and near the tip. Vg.
Winning Bid $113.

Lot 212.  1960 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series “Ship” Pennant with Players’ Names Listed. This full-sized 11 ½” x 29” pennant is rare and exceptionally nice. In white on a blue background, it features a pirate identified as “Murtaugh” on his hat making a scrawny player representing the American League walk the plank. Names of the 25 Pirates players appear on the mast of the ship, dubbed the“1960 World Series.” Surprisingly, all of the names are spelled correctly. The pennant identifies the pirates as the “National League Champs.” Ex-m to nm with some wear showing on the yellow stripe at the left. Wonderful and unusual.
Winning Bid $168.

Lot 213.  Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 NL Champions “Beat ‘Em Bucs” Scroll Pennant. This 10 ¾” x 29” pennant has it all, and what sets it apart from similar versions is the “Beat ‘Em Bucs” slogan and a “Murtaugh - Mgr.” banner beneath the pirate head. The names of 23 players and coaches appear in a scroll. Schofield, Christopher, Cimoli and Haddix all are spelled incorrectly. The pennant identifies the Pirates as “National League Champions.” White text on black with some beige, pink and gray in the pirate. Ex to ex-m.
Winning Bid $185.

Lot 214.  1960 Pittsburgh Pirates Picture Pennant Including Clemente, Mazeroski, Groat. The color photo on this full-sized pennant presents the unlikely assortment of overachievers who brought Pittsburgh its first World Championship since 1925. G photo with players identified on the back. Vg pennant.
Winning Bid $66.

Lot 215.  1961 Pittsburgh Pirates “1960 World Champions” Color Photo Pennant. This 11 ½” x 29 ½” pennant houses a 6 ½” x 8 ½” color photo of the 1961 team with “1960 World Champions” emblazoned beneath. The players are identified on the back of the photo. The presence of Bobby Shantz marks it as the 1961 team. Otherwise, all of the players were part of the World Championship team. The pennant has a white field with yellow and black type and images. This tough-to-find pennant has several holes toward the tip; otherwise vg to vg-ex with a photo that displays very nicely.
Winning Bid $50.

Lot 216.  1963 Pittsburgh Pirates Photo Pennant Including Clemente, Maz, Rookie Stargell. Full-sized pennant with an ex appearance, light stains at the left in the white background and two pin holes. Strong nm color photo with players identified on the back.
Winning Bid $65.

Lot 217.  1967 Pittsburgh Pirates Color Photo Pennant. The photo is 6 ½” x 8 ½” on this 11 ¾” x 29 ¾” pennant, and the players are identified on the front. The team includes such recognizable names as Clemente, Stargell, Mazeroski, Mota, Wills, Matty Alou and Clendenon. Clemente led the N.L. in batting with a .357 average. This is one of the more difficult 1960s Pirates pennants to find. “1967” appears in black on a moveable gold banner. The pennant has a light stain on the 1967 banner and in the lower right corner of the photo. There are several small holes below and to the left of the photo. Otherwise, the pennant is clean. Overall, it displays as vg to vg-ex.
Winning Bid $50.

Lot 218.  1968 Pittsburgh Pirates Photo Pennant Includ-ing Clemente, Stargell, Bunning, Maz. Great-looking, clean, full-sized pennant that is free of stains and pin holes. It does show some wrinkles, and there is wear on the black stripe at the left. Nm b&w photo with players identified below.
Winning Bid $75.

Lot 219.  6 Pennants from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, Panthers, Spirit. These full-sized pennants are primarily from the 1970s and 1980s. The Spirit was Pittsburgh’s entry in the Major Indoor Soccer League from the late 1970s until the mid-1980s. The gold and white pennant on black is vg+ to ex. Two pennants, one from the 1970s and one from the 1980s, represent the Steelers. The earlier pennant is vg-ex with several pin holes, and later one is g-vg with pin holes. Both feature the Steelers’ helmet. One Panthers football pennant is from the 1970s (“Pittsburgh,” earlier mascot, vg-ex with a pin hole), and the other is from the 1980s (“Pitt Panthers,” running mascot, vg). The Pirates’ entry is a 2001 pennant marking the first inter-league series, against Cleveland, at PNC Park, nm with a crease toward the tip. Also included is a poster of Pitt Stadium.
Winning Bid $35.

Lot 220.  Magnificent “Pittsburgh Backs Its Bucs” 1979 World Series 44” x 45” Banner. This black and gold banner, which features a large image of the Pirates’ mascot, was on display in the Steel City as Pittsburgh and Chuck Tanner outmaneuvered Baltimore and Earl Weaver for the 1979 World Championship. The banner has several stains along the left and right edges from a substance that someone used to display it. It also has some chalk or paint stains that likely could be removed. The banner serves as a nostalgic reminder of those wonderful and ancient days when the Pirates fielded competitive teams. It displays nicely and would look great in a game room or bar for as little as our
Winning Bid $218.

Lot 221.  6 1970s-2000s Pittsburgh Pirates Pennants, 2 1990s Small Banners. Three of these full-sized pennants are from the 1970s and feature Three Rivers Stadium. In one, a Pittsburgh batter stands in the stadium, and the mascot is to the right. Printed in white and black on a gold field, it has an “ARA” food service logo. Vg-ex. A second pennant in black, white and green on gold has the mascot above the stadium; g. A black and gold on white pennant has the mascot, the stadium and promotes “Nutritious Nickles” bread. Ex with creases near the tip. Two pennants, one from 1987 and one from 1991, have a new mascot. The first celebrates 100 years of Pirates baseball, vg-ex, and the second honors the “N.L. Eastern Division Champions,” vg. Another 1991 pennant is for the first inter-league series at PNC Park, vg-ex. Two banners, each about 14” x 14”, also recognize the 1991 Division Champs. Provided by the Giant Eagle food chain and KDKA radio, one is gold and white on black, and the other, black and white on gold. Both need to be ironed, and otherwise are ex-m to nm. Accompanying the pennants and banners are shoestrings on a card with two 1 ½” celluloid buttons that say “Pittsburgh” and have a drawing of a baseball and a football.
Winning Bid $35.

Lot 222.  1989 Pittsburgh Pirates Andy Van Slyke Full-Sized Pennant. Displays nicely; vg because of some creases. Van Slyke had consecutive .300+ seasons for Pittsburgh in 1992-93. In 1992, he led the N.L. in hits and doubles.
Winning Bid $24.
