Lot 554. 1913 Player Cigarettes “Wrestling & Ju-Jitsu” Set of 25 Cards. These color cards have blue backs. Each provides a brief tutorial on some aspect of wrestling or “wrestling, ju-jitsu style.” 2 cards g, 10 vg or vg-ex, 14 ex or ex-m.

Lot 555. 23 1920s-30s British Sports Cards Featuring Primarily Cricketers. Ten cards are from Players’ “Cricketers, 1934” set. Three more are from its 1926 “Cricketers, Caricatures by RIP” set. Other cricket sets represented are Churchman’s 1928 “Famous Crickets Colours” Ogden’s “Cricket 1926” and Wills’ 1929 “Cricketers,” second series. The other cards are from Churchman’s “Kings of Speed,” Wills’ “Physical Culture” and Turf’s “Sports Records,” second series (tennis). Overall, these cards are vg-ex.

Lot 556. Partial Sets of Players 1926 “Racehorses,” Ogden’s 1931 “Steeplechase Celebrities.” Eighteen of the 25 “Racehorses” cards are present. This set is popular and scarce. Each card features outstanding artwork of a famous British race horse. From the 50-card “Steeplechase” set, 20 cards are offered (19 different). These cards contain portraits of jockeys and racing officials. 38 cards. 13 are vg or vg-ex; 25 are ex to ex-m.

Lot 557. 1928 “Billiards by Tom Newman” Partial Set of 29. The complete set consists of 50 cards. Each of the 29 cards present provides a brief lesson on how to accomplish a difficult shot. Newman was one of best professional snooker and billiards players of the 1920s. From 1921-30, he appeared in every World Billiards Championship final, and he won the title six times. With these cards and a copy of “Donald in Mathmagicland,” you too might become a billiards champion. One card g. Of the rest, 14 are vg-ex, and 14 ex to ex-m.

Lot 558. 1936 Player Cigarettes “Tennis” Set of 50 Cards. Each color card features an action photo of a famous tennis player and a tip on playing the game. The set includes a number of tennis champions, including Don Budge. The set averages ex to ex-m.

Lot 562. June 15, 1970 Sports Illustrated with Steve Prefontaine on the Cover. SI devotes four pages to Prefontaine, the freshman running star at the University of Oregon, and Bill Bowerman, his legendary coach and eventual co-founder of Nike. Prefontaine was, arguably, the United States’ greatest distance runner. At the peak of his career, he held every American track and field record from 2,000 to 10,000 meters. Two of his records remain unbroken. He died in a rollover car accident in 1975 at the age of 24. Vg+ magazine with a mailing label. Outstanding photo of Prefontaine.

Lot 563. Original Drawing of Olympic Champion Sebastian Coe by Norman Shorrock. Coe won four Olympic medals and set eight world records in middle distance track events. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, he won the 1500-meter event. More recently, he headed London’s winning effort to secure the 2012 Olympics. Balfour artist and executive vice president Norman Shorrock created this pencil drawing. Shorrock designed most of the World Series and All-Star pins that Balfour produced from 1946-90. Shorrock’s artwork shows Coe celebrating a victory. A representation of the British flag is behind him. This well executed multi-colored original drawing is matted and framed to 17” x 21”.

Lot 564. 1960 United States Olympic Book with gold medalist Cassius Clay. This 408-page hardbound book presents complete results of the 1960 Games and information from earlier Olympics as well. Pictured are such U.S. stars as Wilma Rudolph, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Rafer Johnson and Cassius Clay. Interestingly, at the Winter Games, the U.S. captured the hockey gold – without the fanfare of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice.” Ex-m to nm book with a scarce g dj (complete on the front, 2” x 3” piece missing from the back).

Lot 565. Programs for the 1939, 1947 National Air Races at Cleveland Municipal Airport. Both programs feature bold, dramatic red, white, blue and silver graphics. Inside, they are loaded with photos of aircraft flown during the period. The 1947 program contains an insert listing the schedule of races for Sept. 1. Pilots competed for Tinnerman, Goodyear and Thompson Trophies in P-63, P-38, P-51, Corsair and other aircraft. The 1939 program is vg, and the 1947, vg+ to ex. Impressive.

Lot 566. 6 Figure Skating Programs, 1 Featuring Sonja Henie, 5 from the 1940s. The Henie program is for her 1953 “Ice Review.” It features 20 oversized pages of photos and text. Henie won the ladies’ figure skating gold at the Olympics in 1928, 1932 and 1936. Ex. The other programs are for the 1943, 1948 and 1951 Ice Capades and the 1942 and 1943 Ice Follies. Each has a colorful cover with many photos inside. They average vg.

Lot 567. 27 Autographed NASCAR Cards – Jeffs Burton, Gordon, Etc. The autographs are on a variety of cards, primarily from the 1990s. Three are on certified cards: Burton, 1994 Wheels Racing Rookie Shoot-Out, #766 of 1500. Gordon, 1999 Upper Deck Racer’s Ink #JG 1. And Mike Skinner, 2003 Press Pass. The other signers: John Andretti, Johnny Benson, Geoff Bodine, Ward Burton, Richard Childress, Derrick Cope, Bill Elliott, Mickey Gibbs (back signed), Steve Grissom, Terry Labonte, Randy LaJoie, Mark Martin, Joe Nemechek, Kyle Petty, Richard Petty, Greg Sacks, Morgan Shepherd, Lake Speed, Jimmy Spencer, Hut Stricklin, Dick Trickle, Kenny Wallace, Mike Wallace and Cal Yarborough. Lot 568. 8” x 10” B&W Photo Signed by Nadia Comaneci and Olga Korbut. Olga, who signed “O. Korbut,” won three gold medals in gymnastics at the Olympics in Munich in 1972. Nadia captured three gold medals, including the all-around title, in the 1976 Olympics gymnastics competition and two more in 1980. Their autographs are 10s. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.
