Lot 266.  Ron Turcotte Autograph on a June 11, 1973 Time with Secretariat on the Cover. Turcotte rode racing’s greatest thoroughbred to the Triple Crown in 1973. Label-free issue has a couple of light library stamps on the cover, and there is a “2” on Secretariat’s blinders. Otherwise ex with a 10 sharpie Turcotte signature. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 386.  June 11, 1973 SI Signed by Secretariat’s Jockey, Owner. In 1973, Ron Turcotte rode Secretariat, owned by Penny Chenery Tweedy, to horse racing’s Triple Crown. Secretariat’s winning times in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes remain unequaled. Magazine is vg-ex. Both signatures in black sharpie are 10 of 10. Tweedy sometimes signed her married name, and sometimes, her married name. In this case, she has signed with her maiden name, Penny Chenery. Authenticated by Kevin Keating.

Lot 843.  Ring Lardner and “Professor Happy” (Cliff Goldsmith) Books of Sports Humor. Actually, early 20th century sports humor. The Lardner book, “Treat Em Rough: Letters from the Jack the Kaiser Killer,” is relatively common. Published in 1918, it features a series of letters home to “Friend Al” from Jack Keefe, who goes through military boot camp as World War I rages. The letters are filled with sports references, and many of the illustrations by Frank Crerie are sports-related. Vg. Far less common is Goldsmith’s “A Parody Sport Book” with illustrations by Clive Weed. Published in 1923 by the American Child Health Association, it is subtitled “Health Habits for Good Sports’.” Ty Cobb lends his name to an introduction to the book, which features a series of comical games, such as “Fruit Golf,” “Vegetable Ball” and “Evening Baseball.” Amid the nonsense are some health tips. Besides Cobb, the book pictures Johnny Weissmuller, Bo McMillin, Charles Paddock, the New York Yankees team (“They knowÉit takes sound teeth to chew up a World Pennant”) and Bobby Jones. First edition, no dj as issued, paper torn away from spine, ex-m contents. You won’t find quantity copies of this one on the Internet!

Lot 930.  5 British Sports-Related Sets Including 3 from the 1930s. 1. 1936 Ardath (State Express 333) “Sports Champions” set of 50.  Color set including tennis players Helen Jacobs, Peggy Scriven and Fred Perry, golfer T. H. Cotton, aviator T. O. M. Sopwith, and E. H. Temme, who swam the English Channel in both directions.  Ex-m, some better, some less.  2. 1936 Gallaher “Sporting Personalities” set of 48.  Nine cards have tiny to small stains on the back; otherwise, ex-m.  3. 1939 Churchman “Kings of Speed” near-set of 49; missing #45.  Each card has a piece of tape on the back, which does not obscure the text.  The fronts average ex.  Includes Howard Hughes.  4. 1956 Cadet Sweets “Record Holders of the World” set of 50.  Ex-m.  Includes ships, airplanes, trains, cars, Mount Rushmore, the Empire State Building and athletes such as Roger Bannister.  5. 1957 Sweetule Products “Famous Sports Records” set of 25.  Ex-m with Joe Louis, Roger Bannister, Rafer Johnson, Paul Anderson, Sir Edmund Hillary.

Lot 931.  Autographed Photo of Soviet Gymnast Olga Korbut. By captivating audiences at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Korbut began to change of focus of gymnastics competition from elegance to acrobatics. Diminutive and athletic, she was first gymnast to perform a backward somersault on the balance beam. She won three gold medals and one silver at the 1972 Olympics and one gold and one silver at the 1976 competition. Photo is nm. Korbut signed only an “O.” for her first name. The sharpie signature is a 10.

Lot 932.  Autograph of Gymnast Kim Zmeskal on the Aug. 10, 1992 Newsweek. Zmeskal won World Championships in gymnastics in 1991 and 1992. Competing with a stress fracture of an ankle, the 16-year-old was unable to capture a medal at the 1992 Olympics. She was the focus of a controversy, which this Newsweek highlighted, over whether girl gymnasts were being pushed too hard. Vg+ to ex issue without a label. Sharpie signature is a 10.

Lot 933.  5 Photos from the 2005 Kentucky Derby Signed by Winning Jockey Mike Smith. Aboard Giacomo, Smith won his first Derby in 11 starts. The victory was one of the most improbable in Derby history; Giacomo went off as a 50:1 shot. The most dramatic photo of the five offered shows Smith guiding Giacomo down the stretch. The thoroughbred is shown in four photos. Sharpie signatures are 10s. COA from R&R Enterprises.

Lot 934.  Scarce 1927 “Athletic Sporting Record Book” from the Health Institute of Minneapolis. This 48-page booklet promotes various medical products and treatments while providing information on boxing, baseball and horse racing. Boxing is featured prominently, with Gene Tunney on the cover and Jack Dempsey, Benny Leonard and a featherweight woman boxer inside. Babe Ruth, Pete Alexander and Rogers Hornsby represent baseball. Vg-ex.
