Lot 312. Penn State Joe Paterno Memorabilia and 18 2011 Team Card Sets. On the cover of the Dec. 22-29, 1986 issue of “Sports Illustrated,” Paterno is honored as Sportsman of the Year. His Nittany Lions won all 11 of their games during the regular season. Subsequently, they claimed the national title by defeating Jimmy Johnson’s top-ranked Miami team, 14-10 in the Fiesta Bowl. Paterno is profiled in an eight-page article in the magazine. One copy of the issue is ex-m except for a scuff and edge tear on the back cover. The other issue is g+ to vg with a scuff and stain in the lower left corner of the front cover where a label was removed. Paterno is also the subject of an undated circa 1975-80 long-playing 33 1/3 rpm record from Total Communications Systems. Titled “Penn State Football Joe Paterno,” it is narrated by Ray Scott and contains commentary by Franco Harris, Mike Reid, Jack Ham, Rip Engle and others. They record is mint minus and appears to be unplayed. The jacket has two small corner creases and an ex appearance. This collection also includes 18 card sets from The Second Mile charity. Each set has 25 cards 24 players and Nittany Lion mascot. The sets are nm-m. One of the players is Devon Still, a defensive end who gave up his pro career to care for his daughter as she underwent treatment for stage 4 cancer. Available reports indicate that she is cancer-free. Other players in the card set are Matt McGloin, Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti, the Big 10 Linebacker of the Year in 2012. Minimum Bid $15.
