Lot 395. 77 FDCs with Entertainers and Entertainment – Actors, Singers, Films, Cartoons, Etc. All different. This collection includes first day covers with U.S. Postal Service stamps of Marilyn Monroe (1995), Charlie Chaplin (1998), Jose Ferrer (2012), Helen Hayes (2011), Houdini (2002), Grace Kelly (1993), Edward G. Robinson (2000) and Danny Thomas (2012). The Monroe and Robinson stamps are from the long-running USPS “Legends of Hollywood” series. Thirteen FDCs have stamps from the 1991 Comedians and 1994 Silent Screen Stars issues that feature caricatures by Al Hirschfeld. Each complete set is on a separate large envelope. In addition, 11 of the 15 different stamps are alone on separate FDCs, including Abbott & Costello, Fanny Brice, Rudolph Valentino, Charlie Chaplin, Theda Bara and Buster Keaton. Individual FDCs of Frank Capra, John Ford, John Huston and Billy Wilder are from the 2012 Great Film Directors series. Twelve FDCs have characters from three complete Art of Disney series: 200 Imagination – Bambi, Mickey and friends, Pinocchio and Lion King. 2007 Magic – Mickey from Fantasia, Peter Pan, Dumbo and Aladdin. 2008 Imagination – Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, Sleeping Beauty, and Mickey from Steamboat Willie. 2008 and 2011 FDCs with stamps celebrating Latin Jazz and Jazz, respectively. Various issues with Roy Acuff (2003), Duke Ellington (1986), Henry Mancini (2004), Cole Porter (1991) and Igor Stravinsky (1986). Legends of American Music Series (1993-98), FDCs with 14 stamps from a set of 70: Elvis, Bing Crosby, Woody Guthrie, Bill Haley, Billie Holiday, Buddy Holly, Mahalia Jackson, Robert Johnson, Clyde McPhatter, Ma Rainey, Otis Redding, Sonny Terry, and Bob Wills, and “Oklahoma!” “Porgy & Bess” and “Show Boat.” Three FDCs with stamps of Simpsons characters (2009). 1996 American Indian Dances series, one FDC with a Fancy Dance stamp, and the other, with a Butterfly Dance stamp. Three FDCs, each with a Circus series stamp, a ringmaster, a clown and an elephant. FDCs with movie stamps: Star Wars (Yoda, 2007), E.T. The stamps are generally nm-m to mint, and the envelopes, nm. The block of Silent Screen Stars stamps has some creases.
