1941 “True Comics” Page Promoting Hornsby, Waddell and Delahanty for the HoF.

Lot 222. 1941 “True Comics” Page Promoting Hornsby, Waddell and Delahanty for the HoF. The page from the August issue notes that no one had been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame since 1939, when the Baseball Writers’ Association waived the one-year retirement rule to elect Lou Gehrig. The comic then nominates Rogers Hornsby, George (Rube) Waddell and Ed Delahanty with text and illustrations. According to “True Comics,” they were not only “outstanding playing stars, but have contributed to the development of the game.” In 1942, Hornsby became the first post-1939 inductee. Delahanty was enshrined in 1945, Waddell in 1946. The page is vg-ex with a tear in the upper left edge that extents slightly in the illustration. Winning Bid $10.
