Lot 279. 11 1930s-1966 Ads Featuring Lou Gehrig or Babe Ruth. One of the most interesting entries in this collection of magazine ads is a full-page promotion for the 1948 “Babe Ruth Story” starring William Bendix and Claire Trevor. A 1949 one-column x 6.5” ad promotes the “Official Babe Ruth Wrist Watch” for $7.95. Two full-page ads and a half-page version, all different, feature Baby Ruth candy bars from Curtiss. Two of the ads are from the mid-1950s, and the other, from the 1940s or early 1950s. A 1937 half-page ad is for Sinclair Gasoline. There are four Gehrig ads, two for Aqua Velva, 1937, both one column, one 4.5”, and the other, 6”. A full-page 1935 Wheaties ad has a 2.5” x 3” inset with Gehrig endorsing Wheaties. And in a half-page ad from 1936, Gehrig nominates Gillette Safety Razors “For Clean-up King.” Gehrig and Ruth both appear in a 1966 ad 100 for Pipers scotch. These ads average vg-ex.
