“There Stands (Stonewall) Jackson” Civil War Print Signed by James Thomas Neumann.
Lot 392. “There Stands (Stonewall) Jackson” Civil War Print Signed by James Thomas Neumann. Impressive portrait of the Confederate general by Neumann, who has produced the artwork for a significant series of Civil War prints. A 1846 graduate of West Point, Jackson served in the U.S. Military in the Mexican-American War. Born in Virginia, he joined the Confederate Army when Virginia seceded from the Union. Subsequently, he was a major force in almost every Eastern Theater battle until his death on May 10, 1863. He is regarded as one of the greatest tactical commanders in U.S. history; his tactics are still studied. At Chancellorsville, Jackson was accidentally shot by Confederate pickets. He died of pneumonia eight days later. The 20” x 24” print is mint with minor wear at the corners of the very wide borders. Neumann’s 1981 pencil signature is nm-m. Winning Bid $40.
