17 Cartoon Illustrations of Cincinnati Reds by Bob Parker and Other Artists.

Lot 239. 17 Cartoon Illustrations of Cincinnati Reds by Bob Parker and Other Artists. Parker was a Midwest sports artist and baseball enthusiast. In the 1970s, he produced several series of baseball cards featuring his artwork for Topps and other companies. The Reds featured in these illustrations are August Herrmann, Charles W. Jones; Herrmann with Bill McKechnie, Bid McPhee, Johnny Vander Meer, Ernie Lombardi, Edd Roush and Bucky Walters; Billy Myers, Wally Berger, Rube Bressler, Lonnie Frey, Heine Groh, Noodles Hahn, Bubbles Hargrave, Larry Kopf, Ernie Lombardi, Red Lucas, Dolf Luque, Frank McCormick, Bill Werber and George Wright. All of the illustrations are reproductions. The E. A. Bushnell circa 1905-10 illustration of Herrmann alone is on a magazine page slightly less than 8” x 11”; ex with a non-sport illustration on the reverse. Artists for the illustrations of Jones and Herrmann with other Reds are not identified. Both are photocopies, ex. The Jones illustration is from the Reds’ 1982 “Scrapbook” and has notes added about Jones, who played on the Reds first NL team in 1876. They illustration of Billy Myers is unattributed, but it appears to be Parker’s work. All of the others are by Parker, reproduced as glossy photos than range in size from about 6.5” x 9” (3 illustrations) to about 8” x 10” (14 illustrations). These illustrations generally are ex or better. The Wright illustration is matted. Wright was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1937, and Lombardi, in 1986. Almost all of the players are in the Reds Hall of Fame. Winning Bid $15.
