Lot 238. 8 “Legends of Baseball” Limited Edition Plates Recommended by the Bradford Exchange. These 8.25” fine porcelain plates, which are rimmed with 22-karat gold, present paintings of vintage Hall of Fame baseball stars – Lou Gehrig, Cy Young, Rogers Hornsby, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Tris Speaker, Christy Mathewson and Mel Ott. Delphi produced the plates, and Jeff Barson created the paintings. Barson is an artist and medical entrepreneur who has created artwork for the New York City Opera, Ballentine, Coca-Cola and others. He also was commissioned to paint portraits of Vivien Leigh for the 60th anniversary of the movie “Gone With the Wind” and of Princess Diana. Each plate comes with Certificate of Authenticity, a collector card and an insert noting that the “Legends of Baseball” collection is “the first baseball series ever recommended by the Bradford Exchange to depict history’s immortal ballplayers.” The condition of the collector cards varies.
