Lot 751. 10 Photography Books – All with Pin-Up Models, Some by Basch, Gowland or Seawell. These softcover books, two with 112 pages and the others with 144, were published in the 1950s, eight by Fawcett Publishing and two by Whitestone Publications. Generally, they contain some basic information on how take an excellent photo and then present an abundance of black & white photos, almost all of women. Here is the list: “Peter Basch’s Photo Studies,” Fawcett #350, 1957, with Julie Newmar and Tina Louise on the cover and a section, titled “Starlets and Actresses,” with many of the latter, ex-m. “Peter Basch Photographs: Beauties of the World,” Fawcett #377, 1958, photos of models from the U.S. and 10 other countries or regions, vg-ex. “Peter Gowland’s Figure Photography,” Fawcett #250, 1958 sixth printing, vg+ to ex. “How to Take Glamour Photos” by Gowland, Fawcett #285, 1956 third printing, sections on calendar and magazine cover photos, vg+ to ex. “Peter Gowland’s Glamour Camera Portrays European and American Beauty,” Fawcett #430, 1959, vg+ to ex, number stamped on the cover. “Wallace Seawell’s Hollywood Camera,” Whitestone #37, 1962, Kim Novak, Jayne Mansfield and Elizabeth Taylor on the cover, numerous stars inside, and a rare chapter, “Portraits of Men,” vg. The following books have chapters by various photographers: “Candid Photography,” Fawcett #214, 1953, sepia photos and chapter subjects ranging from nudes to Broadway signs to “Photogenic Frogs” to a mission house. The subject matter is extremely diverse. The cover is separated from the pages, g+ to vg with ex pages. “Candid Photography,” Fawcett #523, 1962, including chapters on an old man, dance, baby photography, movie stars, nudes, street portraits and other topics, ex. “Salon Photography, Fawcett #306, 1956, including “Full-Length Glamour,” “Men and Music,” elderly subjects, “Steel Wreckers,” photographs of children and other topics, vg. And “Salon Photography,” Fawcett #391, 1958, with such diverse topics as “Men Working,” “The Nude – Art or Pin-Up,” “Drunk Court” and “Cowboys,” ex-m. Note: The grades predominately reflect the condition of the covers. Pages are almost all ex or better. Winning Bid $30.
