4 Scarce 1957-60 Magazines with Elvis Presley Covers.

Lot 711. 4 Scarce 1957-60 Magazines with Elvis Presley Covers. Elvis’ breakout year was 1956 after he signed with RCA, and he soon became a cover subject for fan magazines. These four magazines are relatively difficult to find: Presley dominates the cover of the May 1957 issue of “Hollywood Screen Parade,” which has an inset of Liz Taylor. Ex. Inside is a two-page article, “Swoon King (Frank Sinatra) vs. Rock n’ Roller,” which asks what “these two sing kings have that makes the girls go so-o crazy.” Ex issue with articles also on Carroll Baker, Rita Hayworth, Marlon Brando, Robert Mitchum, Jerry Lewis, Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Wood and others. “Movieland” July 1957, Elvis, singing, has the cover to himself, ex. A four-page article explores “The Secret of Presley’s Power Over Women.” Other articles cover Clint Walker, Jack Lemmon, Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood, Pat Boone, “Chuck” Heston, Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Joanne Woodward and more. Elvis and Rickey Nelson share the cover of the Sept. 1958 issue of “Movie Life,” ex-m. The magazine has an article titled “Anita Wood Reveals ‘why Elvis and I can’t marry now’.” A singer, Wood was Elvis’ girlfriend for some part of 1957-62. Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Janet Leigh, John Saxon, Rock Hudson, James Arness and Pat Boone also receive coverage. For the Aug. 1960 issue of “TV Film Stars,” which seems to be very scarce, Elvis is pictured with a smaller photo of Sandra Dee. Ex-m magazine with a light stain in the upper right corner. Presley is featured in an article titled “Gabbing with Elvis: His Life and Loves” by Jeri Westport. The article has a full-page sepia photo of Elvis that is somewhat out of register. Other highlights include a sepia centerfold of Robert Conrad and articles on Dee, Liz Taylor, Molly Bee, Fabian, Shelley Fabares, Hugh O’Brien and Tommy Sands. Winning Bid $55.
