1938 Churchman “Modern Wonders” Set of 48 Cards.

Lot 667. 1938 Churchman “Modern Wonders” Set of 48 Cards. These 2” x 2 5/8” color cards, which have lengthy descriptions on the back, portray innovative technologies. In the past 80+ years, some became commonplace, some await their niche, and others have been replaced by newer wonders. They include unusual aircraft, a high-altitude pressure suit, a ladder truck for rescuing potential fire victims, the “Queen Mary” ship, the bathysphere, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Westinghouse Bridge (the world’s largest concrete arch), the Ignitron tube, a million-volt X-ray tube, the electrostatic air filter, a gigantic telescope, an automatic telephone exchange, a television studio, wireless communication, a “super calculating machine” and a slot machine that plays bridge. Seven photos are from Westinghouse Electric. Ex set. Winning Bid $10.
