Lot 574. 1947 Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees Program – Larry Doby’s Rookie Season. . This undated 14-page program is from August or September 1947. On July 5, Doby became the second African-American to play Major League baseball in the 20th century, and the first to play for an American League team. After he joined Cleveland, the Indians faced the Yankees in New York only on Aug. 1-3 and Sept. 8 and 10. Doby appeared in only the Aug. 2 game, as a pinch hitter. He is listed in the scorecard as a backup center fielder. For Cleveland, Lou Boudreau and Joe Gordon are in the pre-printed starting lineup. Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto are listed as starters for New York. The pages showing the pre-printed lineups are slightly attached to each other. The other pages are all separated from each other. Individual pages are generally vg with a small chip in one corner Winning Bid $20.
