1938 Browns at Yankees Scorecard with DiMaggio and Gehrig in the Pre-Printed Lineup.
Lot 573. 1938 Browns at Yankees Scorecard with DiMaggio and Gehrig in the Pre-Printed Lineup. Harry M. Stevens, Inc. was the publisher of this eight-page scorecard, which is vg+ with a 1.5” spine split and staples removed. The front has an ex appearance. In the pre-printed lineup, Frankie Crosetti is the leadoff batter for New York, Joe DiMaggio is in the cleanup slot, and Lou Gehrig follows him. Although undated, the program appears to be for an Aug. 28 game with St. Louis. In the pre-printed lineup and in the box score for that day, Mel Almada is the leadoff hitter for the Browns. He had been traded to St. Louis on June 15, and after that date, the two teams met only five times in New York – July 12-14 and Aug. 28 and 29. Only for Aug. 28 is the Browns’ actual lineup completely consistent with the scorecard version. The Yankees won the game, 4-2. Gehrig walked twice, and DiMaggio delivered a double and drove in a run. Winning Bid $55.
