Lot 544. 4 Portfolios of Classic Paintings from NBC and the National Art Society. In 1939-40, the network and the art society issued four portfolios of prints from paintings by such artists as Dürer, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, El Greco, Rubens, Reynolds, Millet, Kent, Monet, Picasso, Renoir, Rembrandt, Homer, Benton, Holzhauer, Martelly and Ganso. Generally, these prints are approximately 11” x 14”, with some larger and some smaller. Each of the first three portfolios was issued with 16 prints, and the last, with 18. Sixty-two of the 66 prints are present. Their condition ranges from vg to nm-m and averages ex+. The prints in the first three portfolios carry a copyright by the National Committee for Art Appreciation, and the last, by the National Art Society. Among the prints are Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” Michelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam,” Picasso’s “Motherhood,” Gauguin’s “Tahitian Women,” Benton’s “Lassoing Horses” and Watrous’ “Madonna and Child.” These prints are excellent for display or for an art appreciation class.
