Lot 522. 1939 Carreras “Film & Stage Beauties” Set of 54 Featuring Murray Koman Photography. Koman was the most widely recognized glamour and publicity photographer of the 1930s and 1940s. His subjects ranged from showgirls to top entertainers, including Fred Astaire, Josephine Baker, Betty Grable, Bob Hope and Stan Kenton. Thirty-seven of these 54 real-photo black & white cards are attributed to Koman. Most appear to be showgirls or unknown actresses, but among them are Grace Gillern, also known as Grace Albertson; Jean Darling, an “Our Gang” regular as a child actress and Carrie Pipperidge in the original Broadway production of “Carousel”; and Beryl Wallace, who appeared in various risqué stage productions and 22 movies, including many westerns. This set also includes Hedy Lamarr, Sonja Heine, Merle Oberon and Anita Louise in photos not attributed to Koman. These cards have the actress’ name on the front and on the back.
