Autographs of HoF Yankees – Pitcher Waite C Hoyt and Catcher Bill Dickey.




      
Lot 100. Autographs of HoF Yankees – Pitcher Waite C Hoyt and Catcher Bill Dickey. They were teammates for one full season – 1929. A three-time World Series champion with a 237-182 career record, Hoyt was elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1969. He was the Yankees’ most successful pitcher of the 1920s and led the A.L. in wins with 22 in 1927 and then won 23 games in 1928. He died in 1984. Dickey was an 11-time All-Star in 17 seasons and contributed to seven World Series championships with the Yankees. He was elected to the HoF in 1954. On the 1998 “Sporting News” list of Baseball’s 100 Greatest Players, Dickey ranked 57th, with four catchers ahead of him – Johnny Bench, Josh Gibson, Yogi Berra and Roy Campanella. Dickey died in 1993. His autograph is mint 9 to gem mint 10 on the blank side of a postcard postmarked in 1952. Hoyt signed a Curteich Hall of Fame yellow plaque postcard; his autograph also is mint 9 to gem mint 10. PSA/DNA Pre-Certified. Minimum Bid $30.
