Lot 432. 7 Publications from the 1932 George Washington Bicentennial Celebration and a Print. In 1932, a special commission led a celebration marking the 200th anniversary of Washington’s birth. Lasting from Feb. 22-Thanksgiving Day, the program is outlined in a 32-page booklet that includes a list of books on Washington. Part of the results of the celebration are detailed in a 726-page hardbound 9.5” x 12.25” book “History of the George Washington Bicentennial Celebration: Foreign Participation.” Ex and containing a number of photos showing how Washington was honored around the world. Groups planning celebrations honoring Washington no doubt found useful information in a 16-page softcover publication, “Pageant and Plays Depicting the Life of George Washington and His Time for the Nation-Wide Celebration in 1932,” vg-ex. Four publications present or relate to music: 1. “My Washington Grand,” words and music by Lawrence Stoddard Graebing, 1930, ex-m. 2. Program for “Cantata ‘Washington’” presented at Constitution Hall in 1932, vg. 3. “The Music of George Washington’s Time,” 36-page softcover with reference information and music, vg-ex. 4. “Music from the Days of George Washington: Album of Military Marches,” 12 pages (including covers), music for six marches, vg-ex. This collection also includes a 4.25” x 12.25” print with portraits of President and Martha Washington and an image of their home at Mt. Vernon. The print, which is nm-m, is on a 7” x 15” vg brown mount. Impressive and useful collection.
