President William McKinley 1901 Inauguration Program and Other Publications.
Lot 428. President William McKinley 1901 Inauguration Program and Other Publications. Scarce “Official Souvenir Program” for McKinley’s second inauguration on March 4, 1901. The covers are missing, and the edges are chipped and stained. Serviceable reference or reading copy of a seldom-seen publication. Two 1901 supplements from the “Boston Sunday Journal” have Mrs. McKinley on the cover. The March 3 issue provides inauguration coverage and has a two-page photo of the President and Vice-President Teddy Roosevelt. Mrs. McKinley is the focus of the June 2 edition. In it, she writes “I will be glad when he is out of public life. I did not want him to run a second time. I thought he had done enough for the country … and when this term expires he will come home and we will settle down quietly and he will belong to me.” Of course, McKinley was assassinated three months later. Both supplements are vg-ex. An eight-page program provides information for the Inaugural Grand Concerts for McKinley’s 1897 inauguration; f. There also is an article on the 1901 inaugural ball from the May 1901 issue of “The Delineator.”
Winning Bid $20.
