Scarce Program for the 1959 Baseball All-Star Game 1 at Forbes Field.
Lot 290. Scarce Program for the 1959 Baseball All-Star Game 1 at Forbes Field. Major League Baseball initiated its experiment with two All-Star games in Pittsburgh. The N.L. won the first game, 5-4, as Willie Mays drove in the tying and winning runs with a triple in the eighth inning against Whitey Ford. Don Drysdale pitched three perfect innings. The scorecard at the center of the 136-page program is loose and scored in pencil. The back cover has a 1.5” tear that is reinforced with tape, and there is damage ranging from approximately 1/8” to 1.5” at the top of the last 12 pages. Otherwise, the program is vg+ to ex. It contains photos of Aaron, Mays, Banks, Musial, Mantle, Williams and many other stars. Very collectable example of a comparatively difficult program.
Winning Bid $50.
