Lot 387.  Circa 1888 N79 Duke “Histories of Poor Boys” John Jacob Astor Booklet. Lithographed by Knapp & Co. of New York, this 16-page booklet the size of a tobacco card tells the story of the merchant and fur trader who became one of the richest individuals of his time. Vg-ex.

Lot 388.  Trade Card, Early 1900s Holiday and Ford Postcards and Davy Crockett Cards. Eleven cards span the late 1800s through 1956. A 4.5” x 6.5” color trade card showing a mill in winter promotes McLane’s Pills; tear at the top, significant back damage, p. The key postcards offer Thanksgiving or Christmas greetings and a glimpse of a Model T Ford car. The Thanksgiving postcard, from H.S.V. Litho and postmarked in 1909, depicts an early America settler carving a turkey as a Native American peers through a window. This colorful embossed card has a gold border; g-vg. A Wolfe & Co. card postmarked in 1919 offers a Christmas greeting from a young girl and three puppies. Vg. In the Ford postcard, which has pencil writing on the back and is dated 1919, a boy with a broken wheel on his toy car asks a Model T driver if he has an extra wheel. This Ford Booster comic postcard features artwork by Witt. G+. The fourth postcard, from 1909, has a chipped corner and otherwise is vg. The Davy Crockett orange back cards are #6, 11, 17, 24, 72 and 77. They average f. Ten items.

Lot 389.  33 Tobacco Cards from T57 “Fable,” T62 “Fortune” and T97 “Riddle Series.” All different. Thirteen cards are from the 1910-12 T57 Turkish Trophy “Fable Series,” 10 from the first series and three from the second. Vg: 1 card. G-vg: 3. G: 3. F: 3. P:3. Three cards represent the 1910 T62 Turkish Trophy “Fortune Series.” They begin “You are bound to rise” f, “You are not patient” vg-ex and “You are sincerity itself” g-vg. American Tobacco’s Perfection brand is the source of 17 1910 “Riddle Series” cards. Some of the humor in this set is a bit obscure, but the artwork is excellent. F overall.

Lot 391.  1914 Wills Cigarettes “Overseas Dominions (Canada) Set of 50 Cards. These tobacco cards have colorful scenes of Canada on the front and descriptions of the scenes on the back. They average vg-ex.

Lot 392.  1916 Wills Cigarettes “Mining” Set of 50 Cards. The backs of these cards, which have color fronts, provide a tutorial on mining elements, minerals and gems from asbestos to turquoises. The cards average vg-ex to ex.

Lot 393.  9 1930s Dixie Lids Featuring Actors and Actresses. By year, the Hollywood figures are: 1933, Walter Huston vg, Myrna Loy g and Robert Montgomery vg-ex, all without tabs. 1934, Jackie Cooper vg-ex. 1936, Buster Crabbe vg-ex. And 1937, Clark Gable vg-ex, Myrna Loy (2) one vg-ex and one f-g, and Fred MacMurray vg. Seven have backs promoting Reid’s Ice Cream. Two have Borden’s backs, one with a line drawing of “Uncle Don.”

Figures from the “Characters” set are Bambi, Bongo, Brer Bear, Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, Cleo, Daisy Duck, Dewey and Donald Duck. Mickey Mouse is present in the “Occupations” set as a Baseball Player; Donald Duck as a Skater; and Goofy as a Boxer and Skier. Generally g-vg.
